What is Supported Independent Living?
The NDIS provides funding for Supported Independent Living (SIL) to help people with disabilities live more independently in their own homes or in shared living arrangements. SIL is a high-intensity support that is available to people with significant disabilities who require ongoing support to live safely and independently.

  • Personal care: Helping with things like showering, dressing, and eating.
  • Domestic tasks: Helping with things like cleaning, cooking, and laundry.
  • Social and community participation: Helping people to connect with their community and participate in activities they enjoy.
  • Managing finances and other daily tasks: Helping people to manage their money and other aspects of their lives.
Who is eligible for SIL?
You may be eligible for SIL if you have a significant disability that requires ongoing support to live safely and independently. This could include people with:
  • Physical disabilities: Such as spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, or muscular dystrophy.
  • Intellectual disabilities: Such as Down syndrome or autism spectrum disorder.
  • Mental health conditions: Such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
